Frequently Asked Questions

What is VideoNoteGPT and how does it work?

VideoNoteGPT is a free AI lecture summarizer. Upload any lecture recording, or paste a Loom or Dailymotion link — for YouTube, use our free Chrome extension. VideoNoteGPT uses OpenAI Whisper to transcribe the audio, then Groq AI to generate structured notes: chapter breakdowns, key points, vocabulary, quiz questions, and a full transcript — all in under 5 minutes.

Can I get AI notes from a YouTube lecture?

Yes — through our free Chrome extension. YouTube blocks datacentre servers from downloading video, so a pasted link cannot reach the audio from our side. The extension runs in your own browser session instead, where it reads the video's caption track — the same request your own player makes, which is why YouTube does not block it. Install it, open any YouTube video, and click once. It works on videos that have captions, auto-generated ones included, and on unlisted videos your own account can see. If a video has no captions at all, the extension says so — upload your recording of the lecture instead and Whisper will transcribe the audio. You get the same chapter breakdowns, key points, vocabulary list, AI quiz questions, and full transcript with timestamps.

How do I summarize a lecture with AI?

Upload your lecture file, or paste a Loom or Dailymotion link. For YouTube, install the free Chrome extension, which works through your own browser. The AI transcribes the audio, identifies chapters, extracts key points and terms, and produces a structured summary — automatically.

What file formats are supported for AI summarization?

VideoNoteGPT supports MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM video and MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG audio. You can also paste a Loom, Dailymotion or other public video URL directly — no need to download first. YouTube works through our free Chrome extension.

How accurate is the AI transcription?

We use OpenAI's Whisper model. Accuracy varies with audio quality. Accuracy may vary with strong accents, background noise or heavy technical jargon. You can view and copy the raw transcript to check for any errors.

Does VideoNoteGPT generate quiz questions?

Yes! After your lecture is processed, click the "Quiz Me" tab. VideoNoteGPT's AI will generate multiple-choice questions from your lecture content. Choose 5–20 questions, pick a difficulty level, and the AI will quiz you — then grade your answers and explain the correct ones.

Can it handle non-English lectures?

Yes — Whisper auto-detects 100+ languages. The summary is generated in English by default, but you can translate the full summary to Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, French, and many more languages.

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. All uploaded files are automatically deleted from our servers within 24 hours of processing. We never use your lecture content to train AI models, and we never sell it. It is shared only with the AI processors listed in our Privacy Policy. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Can I export lecture notes to Notion or Obsidian?

Yes. The Markdown export is fully compatible with Notion (paste or import .md) and Obsidian (drop into your vault). The PDF export works great for Google Drive or printing.

Which video sites can I summarize from?

Paste a URL from Loom, Dailymotion, Twitter/X and most public video platforms — VideoNoteGPT fetches the audio and summarizes it directly. YouTube blocks datacentre servers from downloading video, so a pasted YouTube link does not work here; our free Chrome extension handles YouTube through your own browser instead, reading the video's own caption track, which covers videos that have captions — auto-generated ones included. You can also upload your own recording (MP4, MP3, WAV, M4A and more).

Is VideoNoteGPT free to use?

3 lectures a day, any length up to 3 hours, files up to 500 MB. Paid plans raise the limits; see Pricing.
